Carol Singer named Lafayette's 2026 Citizen of the Year

The chamber's selection committee picked Singer, in her 40th year on the Parks, Trails and Recreation Commission, as the city's 75th honoree.

Carol Singer, a longtime resident and dedicated volunteer of Lafayette, has been named the city’s 2026 Citizen of the Year by the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce. The announcement was made on February 13, marking Singer as the 75th recipient of this prestigious honor. Singer’s extensive contributions to the community have made her a beloved and respected figure in Lafayette.

Singer’s impact on Lafayette is profound, enhancing the quality of life for residents and visitors alike. Her 40-year tenure on the city's Parks, Trails and Recreation Commission has been instrumental in the development and maintenance of several key community spaces, including Community Park, the Jennifer Russell Building, the Community Center play area, and Hamlin Nature Park. Her quiet dedication and tireless efforts have significantly improved the city’s recreational offerings, making Lafayette a more livable and enjoyable place for all.

Carol Singer’s record of service is unparalleled in Lafayette. She is the only resident to have served on both the General Plan Advisory Committee for the 2002 general plan and the current update, as well as the 2012 Downtown Specific Plan Committee. Additionally, she has been involved in the Lafayette Homeowners Association, where she serves as vice president, and is an active member of the Friends of the Lafayette Library. Her commitment to Lafayette extends to her work on the city’s Age-Friendly Action Plan and her long-standing involvement in campaign finance since 1978.

The Lafayette Chamber of Commerce received 28 nominations for seven people, with Singer emerging as the standout choice. The Citizen of the Year dinner is scheduled for March 19 at 6 p.m. at the Lafayette Park Hotel, where Singer will be formally honored. Singer, who has lived in Lafayette for over 50 years, has been recognized for her extensive contributions to the community.
