The Central Contra Costa Transit Authority, operating regionally as County Connection, enacted extensive bus service and timetable revisions taking effect Sunday, June 7, headlined by an additional daily trip on Route 6 serving the Orinda Community Loop. Transit planners confirmed that the comprehensive adjustments impact eight bus routes across Central Contra Costa, designed to improve schedule synchronization with regional rail carriers and boost on-time performance. For Orinda commuters and students, the expanded Route 6 service provides vital neighborhood transit connections to the Orinda BART station and local civic destinations.
The service adjustments deliver direct reliability benefits to daily riders, reducing transfer wait times and preventing missed connections during peak commuting periods. Beyond the Orinda enhancements, Route 16 gains a new passenger stop at Galindo Street and Laguna Street in Concord, while Route 28 adds a boarding location at Center Avenue and Vine Hill Road in Martinez. Frequency on Route 18 was adjusted to 85 minutes under an updated timetable, while Route 19 service increased to an 85-minute frequency, providing balanced transit coverage across residential neighborhoods.
County Connection operates fixed-route bus services under a joint powers agreement established by Contra Costa County and eleven municipal member jurisdictions, including Orinda, Lafayette, and Walnut Creek. Agency planners continuously analyze passenger boarding data, traffic congestion patterns, and rider surveys to calibrate routes to modern travel behaviors. The June updates specifically align bus arrivals with BART train timetables and neighboring transit operators, addressing longstanding passenger requests for coordinated regional transit transfers.
The transit agency published complete revised timetables as downloadable documents on its official website, allowing passengers to review updated departure times before the first full weekday under the new schedule on Monday, June 8. In addition to local route adjustments, regional express services Route 93X, Route 95X, and Route 96X received revised schedules to optimize highway travel times. Fares remain standard across the system, with discounts available for seniors, youth, and Clipper card holders traveling through Lamorinda and Central Contra Costa corridors.
Transit officials will monitor ridership figures and customer comments during the initial summer service period to evaluate whether additional headway refinements will be necessary ahead of the autumn school semester. Passengers are encouraged to subscribe to digital route alerts to receive instant notifications regarding weather detours, holiday service schedules, or construction impacts. Commuters with questions regarding Route 6 schedules, connection points, or paratransit accommodations can reach County Connection customer service representatives at (925) 676-7500.
