Hog Island Oyster Company, a renowned seafood restaurant chain based in Marshall, has submitted an application for a full liquor license at its future Lafayette location. The application, pending with the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC), is listed under license number 681687 and has a status date of September 4. The proposed location is at 3596 Mt. Diablo Blvd. in Lafayette.

The pending liquor license could have a significant impact on the local community, particularly for residents and businesses in Lafayette. The transfer of the license from the previous tenant, Barranco, suggests that Hog Island Oyster Company is preparing to transform the space into a full-service restaurant and bar, potentially offering a new dining and entertainment option for East Bay residents. This could also bring additional foot traffic to the area, benefiting nearby businesses.

The application is a transfer of an existing type 47 on-sale general license, which authorizes the sale of beer, wine, and distilled spirits for on-premises consumption and allows for the sale of beer and wine to-go. The license was originally issued to Barranco in August 2017 and is currently active. Hog Island Oyster Company, known for its oyster bars and restaurants across the Bay Area, has not yet ventured into the East Bay, making this application a notable development for the region.

The application was filed through the ABC's Concord district office, and the pending record shows an open escrow with an escrow company in Pleasanton. The company, founded in 1983, has established itself with multiple locations in Marin County, San Francisco, Napa, and Petaluma, but has not yet added Lafayette to its list of restaurants on its official website. The exact opening date for the Lafayette location remains undisclosed.

Anyone wishing to protest the liquor license application has until the 30th day after the notice is posted or mailed to file a protest with the ABC's Concord district office. The protest must include the grounds for objection, the facts supporting the objection, and the name, address, and signature of the protestant. Residents and community members can follow updates on the application status through the ABC's online license lookup system or by contacting the Concord district office directly.
