City of Lafayette and BART Complete Final Foundation Pour for Secure 120-Bicycle Commuter Hub
Happy Valley Road transit pavilion scheduled for January opening with electronic card access, solar canopy charging, and integrated repair stands.

Construction teams representing the City of Lafayette, the Bay Area Rapid Transit district, and the Contra Costa Transportation Authority completed the final structural foundation pour on Monday morning for a new state-of-the-art secure bicycle commuter pavilion at the Lafayette BART station. Located adjacent to the southern passenger entrance off Happy Valley Road and Deer Hill Road, the $1.2 million facility will accommodate up to 120 bicycles inside a weather-protected, electronically secured enclosure.
Lafayette City Council members and BART transit directors gathered on-site to inspect the finished concrete pad, which incorporates conduits for solar-powered rooftop photovoltaic canopies, high-security electronic key-card access, and continuous closed-circuit video monitoring. Cyclists will also have access to automated electric-bike charging lockers, heavy-duty pneumatic tire pumps, and public repair stands equipped with precision tools for on-the-go maintenance.
Lamorinda active transit advocates praised the project as a vital link in connecting Lafayette's downtown commercial corridor, schools, and residential neighborhoods to regional rail transit. By offering guaranteed secure bike parking, the facility encourages commuters traveling to San Francisco, Oakland, or Walnut Creek to leave automobiles at home, directly reducing congestion along Highway 24 and easing pressure on the station's frequently filled parking lots.
Commuters and cyclists can register for early bike station access, review regional commuter transit subsidies, and view project construction timelines online at bart.gov or lovelafayette.org. Inquiries regarding bicycle storage permits and transit improvements may be directed to the City of Lafayette Engineering Department Monday through Friday between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM at (925) 284-1968. Structural framing and architectural glass installation will begin next week, leading up to an official public ribbon-cutting ceremony in mid-January 2027.
